12/11: Web Dynamics

The Internet has become a way of life and there is an overload of information about how to deal with 'information overload.'
The plain truth is, that not unlike Seth Godin's 'Purple Cow' philosophy, in today's online environment standing out above the crowd (namely your competitors) means doing something different, and doing it well. Otherwise you and your site are just a click away from being sent back to cyberspace by your potential client.
So what's my point? Well this is a blog, so my point is to begin a conversation about what I call Web Dynamics. The idea came to me when I first started to look at 'Web 2.0' and came to the swift realization that no one has really done a great job of defining what this is. At the end of the day, ask 10 different people and you'll get 10 different answers. What we do know is that we are in the next generation of the web, with technologies and tools that can add great value AND make our lives so much easier, if only we could figure them all out.
It's a bit of a paradox - complexity to simplify our lives.
A good starting point may be our cyber home base, or what we call a Website. Websites have evolved from what was once just a point of validation ("they must be a real company, they have a website!") to what can be described, when done correctly, as a marketing powerhouse.
So, we'll talk about websites on this blog, and we'll look at the technologies, tools and resources that add value to the process and keep your visitors on your site longer, encouraging them to take whatever action you would like.
Next in the Web Dynamics list of rapidly moving parts is Search... let's face it, it doesn't matter how great your website is if nobody knows it's there. Search is a hot topic, because it works. But jumping into the Search maze can be confusing and costly, and what's more, just when you think you have it all figured out they change the rules.
Finally, we'll talk about Advertising on the web... another must do, but riddled with the same questions - how... and how much, and where do I start???
I'll finish this first post with the high level questions that beg for answers.
